Bloomberg seminar explores China’s financial market openness

Over 150 investors and financial market professionals gathered at Bloomberg’s European headquarters in London on Tuesday to explore the latest developments in China’s financial market openness.

The seminar, titled “New Silk Road: Expanding Horizons,” featured a keynote speech by Chinese Ambassador to Britain, Zheng Zeguang.

Ambassador Zheng highlighted that this year commemorates the tenth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) proposed by President Xi Jinping. Over the past decade, the BRI has adhered to the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits. It has embraced open, green, and clean cooperation, while upholding high standards and a people-centered and sustainable approach.

Zheng remarked, “The Belt and Road Initiative has achieved significant progress in policy, infrastructure, trade, financial and people-to-people connectivity. It has become a high-quality public good initiated by China, built by the participating partners, and shared by the world. It injects strong impetus into the common development of countries worldwide.”

Mr Constantin Cotzias, European Director of Bloomberg, emphasized that despite the recent challenges faced by global markets, the financial industry continues to play a leading role in promoting mutually beneficial cooperation opportunities among economies worldwide. China’s ongoing opening of its financial markets to global investors is a testament to this commitment.

Cotzias stated, “Bloomberg remains dedicated to actively supporting cooperation in the global financial sector.” He expressed Bloomberg’s commitment to facilitating the understanding of investment opportunities in the Chinese market for global investors and providing a platform for communication between Chinese financial institutions and overseas investors.

The London seminar marked the second stop of this year’s “New Silk Road: Expanding Horizons” series, following the event held in Hong Kong. The seminar series is set to be hosted in other significant international financial centers, with the aim of enhancing global investors’ comprehension of investment opportunities in the Chinese market and fostering dialogue between Chinese financial institutions and overseas investors.
