China’s National Immigration Administration has improved its approval process for overseas residents to apply for permanent residency, according to Chinanews.com.

So far, 1,881 eligible expatriates have been granted permanent residency since the National Immigration Administration was established on April 2. This is equivalent to the total number approved in 2017, and the time required for approvals has been substantially shortened.

“Having this permanent residency, I can enjoy the welfare services like Chinese people do, this makes me feel like China has become a real home for me,” said Lu Aijia, one of the expats identified with her Chinese name who received her Chinese ID at a ceremony in Hangzhou.
