Parties effortful to form government within deadline

Kathmandu, Dec 25 :

The deadline of one week given by President Bidya Devi Bhandari to political parties for forming the post-election government is ending today. Political parties are effortful to claim the government leadership within the given deadline.

According to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s Chief Private Secretary Bhanu Deuba, a meeting among top leaders of the ruling alliance continues at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar since this morning.

The Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN ( Unified Socialist) and the Rastriya Janamorcha have so far sit for different rounds of talks in a bid to find a meeting point.
The Head-of-the-State on December 18 called on political for the formation of a new government in the aftermath of the elections to the Member of the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly.

When no political party has won a clear majority in the recent elections, the President had called on political parties to form the government by 5:00 pm of December 25 in accordance with the Article 76 (2) of the Constitution. The Article states : “if there is not a clear majority of any party according to clause (1), the President shall appoint as Prime Minister the member of the House of Representatives who can have the majority with the support of two or more political parties represented in the House of Representatives.”

The NC wins 89 followed by 78 of the CPN (UML), 32 by the Maoist Centre, 20 by the Rastriya Swatantra Party, 14 by the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, 12 of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal and 10 by the CPN (Unified Socialist) in the lower house.

Likewise, the Janamat Party has secured six seats followed by four by the Loktantrik Samajbadi, three by the Nagarik Unmukti, one each by the Janamorcha and Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party and five by the independent candidates.
