China’s automakers export 290,000 vehicles in July, hitting new record

China’s automakers shipped 290,000 vehicles to overseas in July, making a new export record, growing 67 percent year-on-year, data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) showed on Thursday, noting that the industry has maintained a strong recovery since June.

In the NEV (new-energy vehicle) sector, production and sales hit 617,000 and 593,000 respectively in July. The total export volume reached 54,000, registering year-on-year growth of 37.6 percent.

CAAM stated that the PMI (Purchasing Manager Index) for the auto manufacturing industry stood at 52 in July, higher than the country’s overall PMI of 49, thanks to the easing of COVID-19 in China’s auto manufacturing hubs, including Shanghai and Changchun, in northeastern Jilin Province.

In July, the overall production and sales of vehicles came in at 2.455 million and 2.42 million, down 1.8 percent and 3.3 percent from June, but registering year-on-year growth of 31.5 percent and 18.7 percent, respectively.
