Chief Minister Tamang Inaugurats ‘Twin Foot Over Bridges’ near TNA

Gangtok, 9August: The Urban Development Department organised a  function to inaugurate the ‘Twin Foot Over Bridges’ near Tashi Namgyal Academy, Gangtok, today.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang graced the occasion to inaugurate the bridge formally and dedicate the infrastructure to the Nation.

The” Twin Foot Over Bridges” near Tashi Namgyal Academy is constructed under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).

The twin footbridge connects the junction of Bhanu Path and Sonam Gyatso Marg with the highway near the TNA gate and assures pedestrians to walk safely without disturbing the road traffic. After the ceremonial inauguration of the bridge at the hands of the Chief Minister, the walkway is now open for all to commute.

The function had the presence of Minister Urban Development Department Arun Upreti, MLA Y.T. Lepcha, Councillors, Additional Chief Secretaries, Secretaries, Heads of Departments, and officers and staff from different departments.

After the inauguration and inspection of the foot over bridge, the dignitaries attending today’s programme arrived at the waiting shed near TNA Main Gate.

Shailendra Sharma, Chief Engineer, Urban Development Department, presented the technical report regarding the foot-over bridge construction. He informed that the length of the bridge is 280 feet long with a width of 6.5 feet, and the railing height is 4.5 feet. Similarly, he also mentioned that the bridge’s foundation has M20 grade reinforced cement, and the structure is constructed with super fabricated mild steel weighing 85000 Kg.

On the occasion, Minister Urban Development Department, Arun Upreti, offered a memento to the Chief Minister as a mark of respect. Secretary UDD, M. T. Sherpa, also presented a memento to Minister Arun Upreti. Similarly, MLA Y.T. Lepcha and the contractor of the  Twin Foot overbridge project, Karma Gyamtso Bhutia, were felicitated with mementos.
 
After inspecting the Fly-Over Bridge leading to TNA campus, the dignitaries and others visited the school. The  Principal of the school, including staff members, warmly welcomed the Chief Minister and the others to the campus. School children waving the fluttering tricolour flags in their hands were lined up to greet the guests. The Chief Minister exchanged greetings with the attendees assembled to welcome the visitors.

The school cafeteria had arranged for tea and refreshments for the guests. In a brief interaction with the school authorities, the Chief Minister enquired about the school and other important matters of concern. He assured help from his side and confirmed to provide Rupees Fifteen lakhs to support the school for essential maintenance.(IPR)
