China urged the US to keep its words and meet China halfway in line with the spirits of the two countries’ joint statement, said Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.
Hua Chunying, spokesperson of the ministry, made the remarks one day after the White House released a statement confirming it still plans to impose 25-percent tariffs on 50-billion-US-dollars’ worth of Chinese imports after mid-June.
China always advocates dealing with trade disputes through equal dialogue and consultation, which meets the fundamental long-term interests of the two countries and their peoples, said Hua.
China doesn’t want to fight a trade war but is not afraid of it, added Hua.
