Kathmandu, June 17
Food shortages in Somalia have been caused by severe droughts and internal conflicts, leading the UN to implement a minimum relief program.
With the assistance of UN agencies such as the World Food Program, UNICEF, the International Organization for Migration, IOM, and its donor agencies, the minimum aid and rescue program was started.
The World Food Program (WFP) director, Al Khidar Dalom, said the program was started as a humanitarian relief package because people were suffering from drought and had been
displaced by hunger.
Millions of people have been affected by the drought, he added, and tens of thousands of
children have been hungry.
According to United Nations research, the drought has affected people since 2021, with at least 800,000 displaced so far.
