Finance Minister, you have come into controversy, resign immediately: MP Bhattarai

Kathmandu, June 13

Yogesh Bhattarai, a member of the CPN-UML, has expressed his serious opposition to
unauthorized persons participating in the budget preparation process.

Bhattarai protested Finance Minister Janardhan Sharma’s use of unauthorized persons in preparing the budget during a House of Representatives hearing on Monday. He demanded Finance Minister Sharma’s resignation. ”The finance minister is involved in a controversy; resign now,” Bhattarai urged.

MP Bhattarai said he discovered the budget’;s increases in customs and tax rates through reading the news. He was shocked when the finance minister ordered the revenue and customs rates to be raised forcibly at midnight.

”No one from the budget branch, even parliamentarians, is authorized to participate in the budget preparation process,” he stated. Such activities are in violation of the oath sworn in the name of the country. It’s not just genocide; it’s full-fledged genocide.”

The lawmakers asked why an excise charge was placed on electric vehicles and why customs duty was increased, but the administration did not reply, according to Bhattarai.
