Emphasis on the promotion of herbal cultivation and export of herbs

Kathmandu, May 30

With the goal of reducing the country’s trade deficit, the government has placed a strong emphasis on herbal cultivation and export. Priority has been given to the production,
processing, and export of medicinal plants by the government under the Fiscal Year 2079/80 budget.

Finance Minister Janardhan Sharma stated provisions have been made for the production and export of herbs when presenting the budget to parliament. The herbal processing sector will be formed at the state level based on the specialty and availability of herbs, according to the budget statement. Finance Minister Sharma said that with the approval of the government, necessary arrangements would be made for the cultivation and processing of all types of medicinal herbs, and the processing industry of valuable and multi-purpose herbs located in hilly and mountainous areas will be supported.
