Tax on liquor increased, and excise duty on beer increased by Rs 30 per liter

Kathmandu, May 30

On alcohol, the government has raised excise and customs duties. Non-alcoholic beer is subject to an excise levy of Rs 20 to Rs 30.

The excise charge on energy drinks has been raised from Rs 36 to Rs 50 per liter in the
2079/80 fiscal year's budget, according to Finance Minister Janardhan Sharma.
Similarly, the excise duty on barley beer has been raised from Rs 198 to Rs 228 per liter.
The excise tax on non-neutral alcohol has been raised from Rs 76 to Rs 86 per liter, on
anhydrous ethanol has been raised from Rs 9 to Rs 12 per liter, and on wine has been raised from Rs 198 to Rs 228 per liter.

The price of a liter of alcohol-containing up to 48.5 percent alcohol has been reduced from Rs 1,592 to Rs 1,750. The price of 42.8 percent alcohol has gone up from Rs 1,188 to Rs 1,306, while the price of 39.94 percent alcohol has gone up from Rs 1,105 to Rs 1,215.
The price of alcohol containing 34.23 percent alcohol has increased from Rs 555 to Rs 610 per liter. The fiscal bill cut the price of alcohol carrying 28.53 percent alcohol from Rs 450 to Rs 472.

Customs fees for a variety of alcoholic beverages have also gone up.
