Language Commission suggests teaching mother tongue from class 1 to 5

Kathmandu, May 30

Every community school should teach children in their mother tongue from kindergarten
through fifth grade, according to the Language Commission.

Professor Dr. Lovedev Awasthi, Chairman of the Language Commission, stated that mother
tongue education is granted as a medium under Nepal’s constitution. ‘Every child should be educated in the mother’s native tongue,’ he stated. The local curriculum must be developed at all levels to achieve this.

Local education, he claims, is being offered in certain schools. However, it’s reasonable to question its effectiveness given the fact that any language isn’t just learned in the mother tongue, according to Awasthi. Unless the country’s mother tongue is protected, it will not flourish.
