Balendra Sah, the newly elected Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, has promised to make Kathmandu the finest city in the world.
He made the promise in his first address after becoming the first independent mayor of
Kathmandu in Nepal's history. “We hope that all of us would work together to create Kathmandu a beautiful and outstanding metropolis not just for Nepal but for the entire world,” he added.
Balendra Sah, an independent candidate, was elected mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, while Sunita Dangol, a former Miss Newa, was chosen deputy mayor.
After two young candidates from various origins were elected to the metropolitan leadership, there was excitement not just in the metropolis but also across the country. Balendra received 61,767 votes, while Singh of the Nepali Congress received 38,341 votes, according to the official results released by the Election Commission. Balendra and Sirjana are separated by 23 thousand 426 votes.
Balen claims he used his success as a platform. He described it as the start of a collaboration rather than a win and vowed to work with a vision and an agenda for the next five years.
Kathmandu, according to newly elected Mayor Balen, is considered as a family.
“Kathmandu is a metropolitan family,” he continued. ‘A family has always existed and will continue to exist.’ Sunita Dangol, a member of the UML, was elected as Kathmandu's Deputy Mayor. She received 68,612 votes.
