Gagan Thapa’s request to Finance Minister Sharma to become Industry Minister

Kathmandu, May 20

Gagan Thapa, the General Secretary of the Nepali Congress and a Member of Parliament, has requested Finance Minister Janardhan Sharma to become the Minister of Industry rather than the Minister of Finance. Thapa stated that the country is in a tough situation as a result of increased imports and that now is the moment for Nepal to prioritize industries, factories, and goods, with an emphasis on exporting.

Thapa said that the year 2049 BS was a watershed moment in Nepal’s industrial growth, and that the country is currently experiencing the benefits of that period. He did say, however, that no such production-oriented methods had been established or extended recently.

Nepal has developed into a country that buys and sells people and products. We can hardly
export just Rs 9 when we acquire things worth Rs 100 over the world. Now is the time to start looking for products to export. ”Let us concentrate on it,” Thapa replied.

Thapa stated at the time that just production, export, and export were carried out, but that taxes could not be collected as expected due to smuggling. He claims that more than 90% of the overall import of high-end commodities, such as clothing, is still avoided via customs. Even if it was discontinued, he claimed, there would be significant improvements.
