Kathmandu, May 20
Ram Thapa of RPP has been elected as mayor in Damak Municipality of Jhapa. Thapa has won in the hometown of UML chairperson KP Sharma Oli. Thapa got 17,525 votes while her rival UML candidate Geeta Kumari Poudel Adhikari got 16,966 votes.
Similarly, Congress candidate Regina Bhattarai has been elected as deputy mayor with 17,072 votes while UML candidate Ambika Prasad Khanal got 16,574 votes.
In Jhapa, RPP had an alliance with the ruling coalition while UML had fought alone.
