Kathmandu, May 3

Emphasizing the protection and promotion of press freedom, Nepali journalists are also
celebrating World Press Freedom Day today.

In 1993, 3 May was declared World Press Freedom Day. This declaration came after a
recommendation was made in 1991 at the 26 th General Conference session of UNESCO.

In a bid to appreciate journalists’ hard work, every year, May 3 is observed as World Press
Freedom Day.
