In Saudi Arabia, 12,000 illegal workers were arrested

Kathmandu, May 2

A total of 12,034 illegal employees have been arrested by the Saudi government.

According to the Directorate General of Passports, violators of the Housing and Labor Act and border security restrictions have been arrested from all across the nation within the last week (Jawazat). On April 21-27, they were arrested during a coordinated field operation by several security services and Jawazat.

Among those arrested are 7,515 for violating the Residency Act, about 3,002 for violating
border security rules, and more than 1,516 for violating labor laws.

A total of 199 individuals were arrested for attempting to cross the state border, with 47
percent of those arrested being Yemenis, 35 percent Ethiopians, and 18 percent from other
countries, while 39 people were arrested for attempting to cross the state boundary.

The Saudi Gazette reports that security agents also arrested 12 persons for transporting and hiding lawbreakers. After the legal procedure is completed, they will all be penalized and deported.

According to the Interior Ministry, anyone who penetrates enables admission into the state,
transport, offers refuge, or provides any other support or service faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in jail and a fine of one million Saudi riyals.

Saudi Arabia has recently increased its assault on migrants who have gone into hiding after
their visas have expired. Hundreds of Nepalis operating illegally in the country have also been arrested and are being put in prisons.
