More than 28.54 billion Nepali rupees have gone out of the nation for gold imports in the first nine months of the current fiscal year.
According to the Customs Department, Rs. 28.54 billion was exported from Nepal for gold
import in the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2078/79.
In the last nine months, the country has imported more than 4,000 kg of gold, according to
figures. The government has received Rs 3.48 billion in income from gold imports.
Gold is mostly imported into Nepal from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Turkey, according to public records. The UAE imported the most gold in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, according to the department.
For the import of 32.33 million kilos of gold from the UAE, the government has received Rs
22.62 billion, whereas the government has received Rs 2.748 billion.
Following the UAE, Turkey imported 8,61,500 kilos of gold worth Rs 5.92 billion. The restriction on luxury items imposed by the central bank has had a direct impact on gold imports.
50,000 grams of gold have been imported in the last month, according to the department.
Despite the present restriction of imports, gold imports appear to have climbed in the first nine months of the current fiscal year compared to the previous fiscal year.
In comparison to the 2,760 kilograms of gold imported till mid-April last year, the current fiscal year’s imports have climbed by 47 percent to more than 4,000 kilograms.
