The Nepal Rastra Bank Employees Union has criticized the government’s decision
of suspending Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari last week.
A black banner with the slogans ”Stop naked interference in the central bank’s autonomy” and ”Return the action taken against the officer immediately” was posted in front of the office’s main building.
The association’s president, Rudra Prasad Timsina, predicted that the NRB’s leadership would be targeted if state operators fell into the hands of financial mafias who were manipulating the financial system. In protest of the office’s opening on Sunday, the association held a corner meeting.
Governor Adhikari was suspended during a cabinet meeting on April 7. The officer has been
suspended by a committee led by retired judge Purushottam Bhandari. The government has yet to receive the committee’s report.
