From May 29, the international airport will be open 24 hours a day. To deal with the rising air pressure, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is planning to operate the international airport 24 hours a day. The Gautam Buddha International Airport and the Pokhara Regional International Airport, which includes the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), will now operate 24 hours a day, according to the NEA. From Republic Day on May 29, the TIA will be open 24 hours a day, according to NEA Director-General Engineer Pradip Adhikari. He stated that in order to deal with the increased air pressure caused by the Covid pandemic, the Kathmandu airport will be open 24 hours a day.

Prem Bahadur Ale, the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation have demonstrated a
particular interest in and involvement in the country’s aviation industry. As a result, the NEA has announced that it is working to improve the infrastructure and services of airports around the country, including three international airports.

Minister of Tourism Ale has made it easier for the airport to be modernized and
commercialized. During Minister Ale’s tenure, the TIA will be operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week. ”NEA made the plan public after performing internal study as per Tourism Minister Ale’s orders at board meetings,” said Director General Adhikari in a press conference.

Rabindra Adhikari, the then-Minister of Tourism, has previously put TIA into action for 21 hours in May 2018. The airport, which had previously been open for 18 hours from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., was extended to 21 hours by adding three hours. After the runway repair work began, the time it took to re-fly was cut in half. Following then, the airport’s operating hours were limited as foreign and domestic flights were canceled due to the nationwide Covid shutdown.

TIA transported 7.2 million passengers in 2018, while having a passenger capacity of 9.2 million.

The airport’s capacity would not have been able to handle passengers if the Covid outbreak had not occurred. The Gautam Buddha Airport is also considered a viable alternative to Kathmandu International Airport. Tribhuvan International Airport, Gautam Buddha International Airport, and Pokhara Regional International Airport, which are all under development, will now function 24 hours a day, according to the NEA.
