The Nepal Rice, Pulses, and Oil Industries Association has asked for a rise in rice customs tax.

The union has met with the Revenue Advisory Committee and the Customs Department,
requesting a 15% increase in rice customs duty.

Because the import of rice will benefit just the traders, the association’s president, Subodh Kumar Gupta, has urged that the customs charge on it be increased to 1%, as well as the customs duty on paddy. The association has also provided the committee and the department with three-point recommendations.

”If it is made easier to import paddy rather than rice, tens of millions of trash will not have to be imported every year.” Similarly, the rice sector and people who are engaged as a result of indigenous investment will be employed,’ added Gupta.
