After four and a half years, the couple, who were victims of ethnic untouchability, achieved
justice. Five people have been sentenced to five months in jail and punishment of Rs 5,000 each by the Saptari District Court.

The court has also ordered to compensate the victims with Rs 50,000. Liladhar Das Tama, the victim, remarked that despite his timeliness, he received justice. ”The hope for justice was dead,” Tama, 42, added. ”Despite the fact that it was late, I received justice.”

Tama’s wife, Dukhni Devi Das, 35, expressed pleasure that the accused had been found guilty by the court. Despite the court’s decision in her favor, she claimed it was difficult for Dalits to rejoin society and live a regular life.

”Justice will not be served only by punishing the guilty and paying the punishment,” she stated.

”Society must recognize equality.”
