Opium cultivation was destroyed from 164 bighas of land

In many parts of Makwanpur, police have started a campaign to destroy opium growing. A joint police team from the Police Headquarters Drug Control Bureau in Koteshwor, Kathmandu, the Bagmati Province Police Gana Ratmate, and the Makwanpur District Police Office has launched a campaign to remove opium production in Makwanpur’s various locations.

Despite the fact that the authorities have decimated poppy planting via daily operations,
output continues to rise year after year. According to the authorities, the popularity of opium farming has lately increased in Makwanpur. Opium cultivation has surged in Makwanpur’s Raksirang, Kailash, and Bakaiya villages, according to the police, which has been a leader in cannabis production and smuggling.

According to the police, opium’s appeal has grown as a result of its ease of production. Because it is easier to sell and distribute at a high price, opium is becoming increasingly popular.

In three days, police in Makwanpur eliminated opium poppy growing in 164 bighas around the city. On Monday, police began a crackdown on opium poppy production, which lasted until Wednesday.

Every day, 63 police officers were dispatched to remove opium poppy production. On
Wednesday, police destroyed poppy plantations in Makwanpur district’s Raksirang and Kailash villages.

On Wednesday, 90 bighas of opium were destroyed in wards 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9 of Raksirang and wards 4, 7, and 8 of Kailash, according to the Makwanpur District Police Office.

Similarly, on Tuesday, the police destroyed 35 bighas of opium growth. Rukirang Village
Municipality-4, includes Chowkitar, Madal Singh, Kailash-4 under Bilouni, Kailash-7 under Bilasi, Tamlang, and Kailash-8 under Ruplang, Dudlung, the police destroyed 35 bighas of opium poppy production.

Similarly, on Monday, the police crew destroyed 39 bighas of opium growing. In Machhamunti, Jasingtar, Manchhap, Chhapdanda, Bamking, Lafar, and other places of Raksirang-4, police have removed opium poppy growth. In the region, police demolished 28 bighas of opium poppy growth.

On Monday, the police demolished 11 bighas of opium cultivation in Jyamire, Morangedhap,
and other locations of Makwanpur’s Bakaya Gaonpalika Ward No. 6.

Due to the Holi vacation, the campaign was put on hold for two days, according to Surendra Bahadur Gurung, Superintendent of Police, Makwanpur District Police Office. According to him, the fight to remove the growing opium poppy would continue, and an action plan will be developed.
