Nepal’s and the UAE’s labor ministries agreed to work together to resolve the ‘visit visa’ issue

On Tuesday, Minister for Labor, Employment, and Social Security Krishna Kumar Shrestha met with UAE Minister for Human Resources Dr. Abdul Rahman Abdul Manan Al Awar during his visit to the UAE.

According to the Ministry of Labor, the two addressed bilateral ties and the interests of Nepali employees in the UAE during their meeting at the Ministry of Human Resources in Abu Dhabi.

Labor Minister Shrestha lauded the UAE government, claiming that the UAE government’s latest labor law was favorable to migrant workers. During the discussion, the two countries determined to work together to resolve the issue of Nepalis stuck in the UAE on visit visas and to prosecute those responsibly.

According to reports, the UAE government would assist in bringing individuals and
organizations that entered the UAE on a visit visa and were enticed to work into the scope of action. Minister Awar stated at the meeting that the UAE government is committed to assisting Nepal in the production of skilled personnel by investing in the establishment of skill development training facilities and capacity building.

Minister Shrestha’s Secretariat, also emphasized the UAE government’s willingness to assist in the development of a workers’ hospital to be established by the Nepalese government. They also talked about social security, workplace safety, health and insurance for Nepali employees in the UAE, as well as salary hikes.

Minister Awar stated that the government of Nepal’s decision to reopen the work visa for long-serving domestic employees will assist domestic workers in the UAE.

The meeting was attended by Ministry Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, Nepali Ambassador to the UAE Krishna Prasad Dhakal, Joint Secretary Rajiv Pokhrel, and Deputy Secretary Dr. Thaneshwor Bhusal. Abdullah Al-Naimi, Secretary of the Ministry of Human Resources, and Abdullah Al-Samil, Director of the Department of International Relations, were among those in attendance on behalf of the UAE.
