Kathmandu, March 16
From unification until the foundation of democracy, the Hanumandhoka Durbar Museum
Development Committee has opened a picture exhibition on the ground floor of Gaddi Baithak.
In addition to Gaddi Baithak, the exhibition will have over 100-year-old pictures by
photographers Dirghaman Chitrakar, Ganeshman Chitrakar, and Kiranman Chitrakar.
Hundreds of local and international tourists visit the Hanumandhoka Durbar region every day to observe the historical photography display.
The exhibition had previously been postponed owing to the third wave of the Corona
pandemic, which was set to begin in the first week of February. The display resumed on Friday, March 11 after the corona pandemic decreased, according to Sandeep Khanal, chief of the Durbar Care Center in Hanumandhoka, who told the RSS. Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Maheshwar Neupane, who inaugurated the exhibition, stated that such activities will bring both foreign and local tourists to the heritage site.
The display contains papers such as Prithvi Narayan Shah’s weaponry used in the Nepal Unification Campaign and a replica of major events related to the founding and restoration of democracy in Nepal. The display is expected to aid in understanding the situation at the time.
Gaddi Baithak has also been available to the public in conjunction with this show. Special
exhibits and cushion gatherings are also permitted with museum admission tickets. The Gaddi meeting hall was opened to the public a few days before the 2015 earthquake. Following seven years, the Gaddi meeting, which was shuttered after the earthquake, has reopened to the public.
The conference was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil
Aviation, as well as the Department of Archeology, according to the Hanumandhoka Durbar
Care Center. Documents from Nepal’s unification through the formation and restoration of democracy have been displayed on the bottom level of the Gaddi meeting.
