After receiving information that he received a lottery ticket for Rs 9 million, a gold chain, and a 200,000-suitcase shipment, WhatsApp user John Lawrence lost Rs 2.9 million on social media.
Many individuals have been misled into trusting what others say without questioning it. This is a continuation of it as well.
As soon as the lottery information was received under a foreigner’s name, a Nepalese man named Pratap Rana Singh phoned the victim on WhatsApp and told him that he needed to pay tax in order to collect the shipment and lottery money.
The victim was caught cheating after paying Rs. 29 lakhs into a bank account in the names of other people in order to obtain Rs. 9 million, according to the police.
Gamdeep Gautam, 38, of Mandandeupur Gaonpalika-4, Kavrepalanchok district, and presently residing in Thimi, Bhaktapur, has been found guilty of such fraud, according to the Metropolitan Crime Branch.
The victim was detained on the basis of his allegation, according to Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar Acharya, and turned over to the Metropolitan Police for further legal action (Sourced from RSS).
