Imports and exports of a variety of commodities to Nepal from Birgunj, Nepal’s primary gateway and important commerce gateway, have increased, resulting in increased revenue collection.

With the lowering in the corona transition rate, the country’s industry and trade have gained traction, which has benefited the Birgunj Customs Office’s income collection.

Following a rise in the import and export of various goods to Nepal via the Birgunj checkpoint, income collected in the same period of the current Fiscal Year increased by 38% over revenue collected from July to January of the previous Fiscal Year.

Birgunj Customs collected Rs. 121.72 billion in revenue in the current fiscal year’s
corresponding period, compared to Rs. 88.50 billion in the previous fiscal year’s corresponding period. The amount is $33.22 billion higher than the previous year’s revenue.

The customs agency had set a target of Rs. 116.71 billion to be collected between July and
January of this fiscal year. According to Sumit Gupta, Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, the office has managed to collect 4.3 percent more than the target of Rs 5.17 billion.

He said that a rise in the import of automobiles, fuel, and industrial raw materials, which
generate the most money for Birgunj customs, had boosted revenue collection.

The money earned from the import of automobiles for Nepal through Birgunj has climbed by 23.21 percent, while the import of fuel has increased by 37.91 percent, according to the Birgunj Customs Office.
