Beijing airport fully prepared for Winter Olympics personnel departures as leaving peak approaches

China’s civil aviation regulator said it has made every effort to ensure the orderly departure of Olympic personnel as the leaving peak approaches.

International outbound passengers will pass through the T3-C and T3-E international departure protection zones in line with closed-loop management protocols, Sun Jianying, an official from the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, said on Wednesday.

The regulator has set up an on-site headquarters and established a liaison mechanism for various areas to ensure efficient and rapid response to various tasks, Sun said in a press release from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

Additional measures also include optimizing Olympic-related flight schedules, setting up check-in counters in the three Winter Olympic villages, and handling baggage transfer in advance.

By increasing the drop-off parking spaces on the fourth floor of Terminal T3-C, adding an elevator for oversized luggage in the building, expanding the luggage sorting area, providing sufficient luggage trolleys, and dispatching additional ground support personnel, staff will ensure the efficient operation of departure arrangements, Sun said.

At present, all stations at the airport have been fully prepared, and more than 1,800 staff and 600 volunteers will be dispatched each day to provide support, Sun added.

From January 4 to Tuesday, a total of 436 flights related to the Olympics were processed with high efficiency and tight closed-loop control, a total of 18,194 Olympic personnel, and 48,000 items of luggage were delivered safely, data from the CAAC showed.

Air China, as an official partner airline of the Beijing 2022 Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games, said in a note shared with the Global Times that it has set up ticketing centers in three Winter Olympic Villages and the main media center to provide ticket sales services, special passenger services, membership services, and aviation business consulting.

The progress bar of the Beijing Winter Olympics has passed halfway, and many foreign athletes have set off on their way home after completing their own events. But it’s not easy to say goodbye. The short trip to the Olympics has made them fall in love with the city and its people.

The Beijing Winter Olympics runs from February 4-20, 2022 in Beijing, the city’s Yanqing district, and neighboring Zhangjiakou in Hebei Province.
