Kathmandu, February 6
The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) is going to select the office bearers from the
upcoming meeting of the Central Committee. Due to the large number of claimants, the
Maoists have not been able to select office bearers even a month after the conclusion of the General Convention. The Standing Committee, Politburo and the rest of the Central Committee members will be decided from the meeting of the Central Committee to be held on Magh 27.
After the selection of office bearers in the meeting, strategy for local elections will be
formulated and plans and tactics will be formulated as directed by the General Convention.
UCPN (M) leader Haribol Gajurel said, “The meeting of the Central Committee on 27 Magh will form the party structure including the office bearers. It has been prepared. He said that there should be no delay as preparations for local elections are being made.
The 8th General Convention of the Maoist Center held in Kathmandu from Poush 12 to 19 had unanimously selected 236 central members out of 299 but the General Convention was
concluded without selecting the office bearers and standing committee. The General
Convention has not been able to select the office bearers, especially since there was no
consensus on the General Secretary. Leaders Barshaman Pun, Janardan Sharma, Dev Gurung, Pampha Bhusal and other leaders were discussed at the General Convention. He has returned home. Among them, there is a lot of discussion between leader Pun and Sharma. Leader Barshaman was in China for re-treatment during the General Convention.
The number of office bearers is not specified in the constitution. Preparations have been made to have seven vice chairpersons, one general secretary, two deputy general secretaries and the rest of the secretaries including the chairperson and senior vice chairperson. Leader Gajurel said that the office bearers would be selected by consensus even if there were many aspirants. Even if there is no consensus among the aspirants, the general secretary and office bearers will be selected from the second option.
