Minus 13-degree Celsius temperature in Solukhumbu

People’s lives have been affected due to the second snowfall in the upper region of the
Himalayan district Solukhumbu. Khumbupasang Lhamu Village Municipality-4 The temperature in Khumjung has dropped to minus 13 degrees Celsius. Residents have not been able to get out of their homes. According to Bhumiraj Upadhyaya, Conservation Officer of Everest National Park, firewood has been used at home to keep the body warm and other government employees have been using the same method.

As soon as the tourist season is over, most of the residents of this region go to the capital
Kathmandu and other areas to avoid the cold. This year too, most people have left Khumbu to avoid the cold, while the Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla, which has around 100 daily flights, is now limited to 2-3 flights daily.

According to Pemayangji Sherpa, a local, about 70 percent of the people in Khumjung area have gone to Kathmandu to avoid the cold. He informed that all the families went to Kathmandu after locking the house.

Police personnel deployed for peacekeeping have been conducting daily patrols. Chief of the
District Police Office, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kavit Katawal said that the police should be active to prevent poaching and other incidents as it is also a national park.

Khumjung police station is the highest police station. Constable Jay Dhakal, in-charge of
Khumjung police post, said that they had to use water from a spring 20 minutes away due to freezing of water in the pipe.
