Discussions are going on between the ruling coalition and legal experts about the election

The ruling coalition is in talks with senior jurists over the election. Top leaders of the coalition and legal experts will hold a discussion at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Sunday at 4 pm.

CPN-Unified Socialist Deputy General Secretary Gangalal Tuladhar said that the top five leaders of the five ruling parties were seeking the opinion of legal experts regarding the election. He said, “We are discussing with the legal experts regarding the tenure of the local government and holding the elections of all the three levels at the same time.” A meeting of the coalition’s high-level political coordination committee on Friday decided to discuss the election with legal experts.

There is a dispute as to which of the three local phases will be held on 31st of Baishakh, 14th of Jesth and 2nd of Asoj. Leaders of the coalition have argued that the 2nd of Asoj should be called a time period, while the opposition UML is in favor of holding local elections in Baishakh. But within the coalition, discussions have begun on whether it would be appropriate to hold elections at all three levels simultaneously next Mangsir. The coalition is preparing to reach a decision after discussing the issue with legal experts.
