Kathmandu, January 23
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has said that it is unconstitutional for the Election
Commission to remove the words ‘monarchy’ and ‘Sanatan Hindu Rashtra’ from the party’s constitution.
RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden said that the Election Commission had gone against the spirit and letter of the constitution and that they would send the same in reply.
The commission had sent a letter to RPP to remove the words ‘monarchy’ and ‘Sanatan Hindu Rashtra’ from the constitution saying that the preamble and spirit of the constitution was unfavorable. Chairman Linden has called a meeting of officials today to discuss the issue. He said that he would send a letter to the commission after the meeting at the party office at one o’clock in the afternoon.
Talking to media, he said, ”The questions that the Election Commission has sent to us by quoting the constitution are unconstitutional. Because there is a provision in the constitution that no party will be banned on ideological grounds except for opening political parties carrying out armed activities. Therefore, his question is against the constitution, the essence and spirit of the constitution. We will send it in writing. ”
Earlier, the Election Commission had ratified the constitution by removing the phrases related to Hindu nation and monarchy mentioned in the constitution passed by the RPP’s Ekta General Convention held in Kathmandu from Falgun 6 to 10.
The Election Commission had recently instructed the Maoist center to remove the words ‘class struggle’ and ‘communism’ from the constitution.
