A folk and winter sport’s fusion concert took place in Beijing on Wednesday to celebrate the Chinese New Year and the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
Following the official motto of the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Together for a Shared Future, the concert was showcased by the China National Traditional Orchestra (CNTO) to celebrate the upcoming Chinese lunar New Year or the Spring Festival, which falls on February 1 this year.
“Folk music should be the warmest and most powerful form of music for our people. I know it could be a challenge to present winter sports through music but the concert is very interesting,” Zhao Cong, Head of the China National Traditional Orchestra, said before the performance.
Members of the rhythmic gymnastics national team and swimming champions also attended the event. “For the first time I felt the music, art and athletic vibes are present at the same time at one concert,” said Zhang Yuhan, Asian Games medalist in swimming.
The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games is scheduled to start on February 4.
