MPs in confusion when Parliament is not sitting

The sittings of both the houses of the federal parliament have not been able to take place for the past few days. Parliamentary committees also do not seem to be effective.

As the parliament and its organs are not effective, the parliamentarians are also confused.
According to a source in the Parliament Secretariat, many lawmakers complained that they
were confused even though the meeting was not affected.

Due to the situation where the meeting of the parliamentary committee is not held
continuously and the meeting of the parliament is not held, the days of the parliamentarians are spent outside the parliament. Some MPs were found rushing to the ministry towards Singha Durbar while others were found moving towards the district.

Although the Parliament Secretariat has issued notice that the last sitting of the Parliament was postponed due to Corona, many MPs seem to be unaware of the reason for the postponement.

Even though the sitting of the parliament has been postponed, it is the role of the
parliamentarians to make the parliamentary committee active, but they have not shown
activism in this regard either.

After the parliament meeting convened on Monday was postponed indefinitely towards the
House of Representatives and the National Assembly on Magh 16, some lawmakers have
moved to the districts. MPs from the district had arrived in Kathmandu on Monday for a
parliamentary session. They have also returned to the district.

If the parliamentary committee meeting has to be held after the MP goes to the district, it
seems that it will be difficult to reach the quorum. Attendance at the Public Accounts
Committee meeting held a few days ago was very low. It is reported that there is confusion
over whether to convene a meeting of the parliamentary committee due to the government’s rule that no more than 25 people can gather for the last time.
