Janakpurdham has been determined as the permanent capital of Province 2. A meeting of the state assembly on Monday decided on Janakpurdham as the permanent capital of the state by a two-thirds majority. A total of 78 votes were cast in favor of keeping Janakpurdham as the capital as 99 MPs participated in the voting in the state assembly.
Under this proposal, Dhalkebar East-West Highway in the north, Kamala River in the east,
border of Nepal in the south and the entire territory of Mithila Madhyamiki Parikrama in the
west will be Janakpurdham.
The constitution provides for the name of the province and the permanent capital to be
decided by a two-thirds majority of the provincial assembly.
The resolution was passed by more than two-thirds of the votes and no decision was taken on other proposals related to the state capital. A proposal was also tabled in the state assembly to designate Birgunj as the capital of the province (Pokhariya Municipality, Sakhua Prasauni Village Municipality, Parsagadhi Municipality, Jitpur-Simra via Nijgadh to Samraungadh) and Birgunj Metropolitan.
