The World Health Organization (WHO) has added two more drugs to its list of drugs to treat
Covid-19. The World Health Organization (WHO) has added baricitinib and sotrovimab to its
guidelines at a time when the number of infections is increasing worldwide due to the new
omikron variant, which is considered more contagious than other variants.
Recommended for the treatment of Covid-19, barycitinib is also used in the treatment of
rheumatoid arthritis. The drug could be used to treat Covid-19 along with corticosteroids,
according to the WHO.
A panel of international experts from the WHO said that the use of barisitinib would reduce the need for ventilation and save the lives of covid infections.
Sotrovimab, recommended by the WHO, is a monoclonal antibody that can mimic the body’s immune system. According to the organization, it can be used only in the case of patients with special condition i.e., general symptoms but high hospitalization condition.
The latest WHO recommendation comes at a time when the Covid-19 epidemic is on the rise again. Last week alone, more than 15 million corona infections were reported worldwide. This is the most frequently confirmed infection so far.
According to Al Jazeera, the number of infected people has recently increased due to Omicron replacing Delta in almost all countries.
