As the infection progresses, the activities of the party come to a standstill

The activities of political parties have come to a standstill as the number of corona infections is increasing across the country along the Kathmandu Valley. The party’s activities have been affected after the government banned more than 25 people from gathering in one place, including assemblies and conventions.

With the recent decision of the government, the parties have postponed the pre-determined program. Meetings, conferences, gatherings and other programs of the party have been postponed after the top leaders of the party became infected with corona.

Political parties have stated that the party’s pre-scheduled program had to be postponed due to the recent increase in the number of corona infections. Maoist center leader Ganesh Sah said that his party’s central committee meeting had been postponed due to increasing number of corona infections.

The Maoists had called a meeting of the Central Committee on Poush 25. However, Sah said
that the meeting had to be postponed after the top leaders including CPN (Maoist Centre)
chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal and leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha became infected with the corona.

Similarly, the main opposition CPN-UML has also postponed the scheduled state convention for some time. However, the UML has stated that the district convention is still going on.

According to Bishnu Rijal, deputy chief of the UML’s propaganda department, the party’s state convention has been postponed due to increasing risk of corona virus infection. He said that the convention scheduled earlier on 8 Magh will now be held on 28 and 29 Magh.

Similarly, meetings, discussions and gatherings of Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP) and
Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) have also been stopped. JSP executive member Manish
Suman said that all party programs have been postponed. LSP leader Sanjay Yadav said that the party’s program has been postponed for some time.
