Kathmandu, January 10
Myanmar’s pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been sentenced to four years in prison.
A Myanmar military court has convicted Suu Kyi of at least three counts and sentenced her to four years in prison, according to international media reports. He was sentenced to two years in prison for using a walkie-talkie illegally and violating the Corona virus ban.
The army arrested 76-year-old Suu Kyi in February after a coup d’tat led to nearly a dozen charges. But Suu Kyi has denied the allegations.
Critics of the military rule say the allegations against Suu Kyi are politically motivated. If
convicted on all charges, he could face up to 100 years in prison, according to Al Jazeera.
He was sentenced to four years in prison last month for inciting protests and violating the
Kovid-19 protocol. However, the military leadership later reduced the sentence to two years.
