Nepali runner Pushpa Bhandari has won a bronze medal in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib
Dhaka Marathon in Bangladesh.
Pushpa finished third in the South Asian category. Earlier, Pushpa had won gold in the same
category last year.
But this time, Pushpa came third behind the Indian players. Pushpa completed the prescribed distance in 2 hours 55 minutes and 35 seconds.
She completed the distance in 2 hours 59 minutes and 41 seconds last year. Although Pushpa improved the timing, she could not defend the gold.
Chandra Gurung, the coach of the Nepali team, said that the Indian runners were good this
time.
India’s Aarti Dattatraya Patil won the gold in 2 hours 534 minutes and 28 seconds while India’s Jyoti Gawate won the silver in 2 hours 54 minutes and 15 seconds.
Nepali male players could not win medals
Similarly, two male players from Nepal also competed in the South Asian quota. But they did not win any medals.
Kiran Singh Bogati of Nepal finished the race in 2 hours 23 minutes and 43 seconds and finished fifth. In the top four, Bugatha Srinu won the gold with a time of 2 hours 16 minutes and 26 seconds.
Coach Gurung said that Kiran and another player Narendra Singh Rawat had a good time but could not win the medal.
