Charles Sobhraj’s case is being heard

A case has been fixed in the Supreme Court today to hear the case of Charles Sobhraj, who is lodged in the Jagannath Deval Jail. A joint bench of Justices Bam Kumar Shrestha and Nahakul Subedi is scheduled to hear the case.

Sobhraj had filed a writ petition on Poush 7 seeking release on the basis of age. Earlier, a single bench of Anil Kumar Sinha had issued a show cause order in the name of the government while conducting a preliminary hearing on the writ petition.

There is a legal provision that up to 75 percent imprisonment can be given to a prisoner who has reached the age of 70 if he behaves well. Sobhraj has demanded that it should be applied not only to Nepalis but also to foreign nationals.
