Preparing to bring Kharel as intelligence chief

Kathmandu. The government is preparing for the appointment of Ganesh Adhikari, the chief of the National Investigation Department, the country’s main intelligence agency, after he retires on Poush 23. Officers are going on compulsory leave after the end of their three-year tenure.

Yadu Lal Kharel and Yadav Prasad Regmi, who have been working as the Chief of Investigation in addition to being the head of the internal and external intelligence agencies, have a strong presence. But the government is preparing to appoint Kharel. After Kharel’s time was short, the government tried to give continuity to the officer but after the officer refused, the way was opened for Kharel. If elected, he will remain in office for only seven months. The current chief executive is coming to an end on 23rd Poush.

KP Sharma Oli, who became the Prime Minister on behalf of the UML, had appointed Adhikari as the Chief Investigation Director on Poush 23, 2075. Earlier, Prime Minister Oli had placed the National Investigation Department under the Prime Minister’s Office. Currently, the department is under the Prime Minister’s Office.

Before being appointed as the head of the officers’ department, Dilip Regmi, who was in the
then position, was dismissed and the officer was appointed. The current government led by
Sher Bahadur Deuba was about to extend his tenure even after keeping him in office for the entire term. However, it is reported that he is going to appoint Kharel after he expressed his desire to retire.
