‘Increase in press freedom violations in Nepal’

Kathmandu, December 31

According to the Federation of Nepali Journalists, 2021 is a challenging year for Nepali
journalism. According to FNJ Secretary General Roshan Puri, the number of press freedom
violations has increased this year as compared to the previous year.

According to the records of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, there were 52 incidents of
violation of press freedom in 2020 and 62 incidents of violation of press freedom from January 1, December 31, 2021 to 11 am. In 62 incidents, 190 journalists have been affected and 4 media outlets have been affected.

There have been 32 incidents of threats and abuse against journalists this year. There have
been 10 incidents of occupational insecurity and occupation and obstruction. Similarly, there have been five incidents of attack on journalists. Similarly, FNJ records show that there were 4 incidents of arrest of journalists and 1 incident of policy ban.
