Pet turtles ‘frozen to ice’ due to owner’s neglect

Several pet turtles were “frozen to ice” due to neglect by their careless owner, but the animals, a symbol of longevity in China, have been brought back to life after thawing.

Surnamed Rui, the owner of the turtles and a resident in Zhengzhou, Central China’s Henan Province, shared a video online on Monday, showing how her pet turtles survived from immobile ice to being alive again.

She said in recent days, Henan has experienced a sharp drop in temperature, but turtles kept in the tank were not put back to a warm room in time.

“I found out on Monday that my turtles were frozen into ice bumps,” Rui said, “I was so afraid that my turtles would have died. Fortunately, after thawing, the turtles came back to life.”

Rui said after posting a video of turtles frozen into ice, she received many suggestions from netizens, and later found thawing at room temperature worked best.

Some netizens said that after watching Rui’s video they became aware they had probably made the same mistake and immediately removed their pet turtles from outside their windows.
