About 6,000 flights have been canceled worldwide in three days.
According to a website called FlightAware.com, which has been tracking flights, nearly 6,000 flights were canceled worldwide between Friday and Sunday amid increasing omicron
transmission. The website also states that thousands of flights have been delayed.
As many as 2,400 flights were canceled and 11,000 were delayed on Friday. As many as 2,800 flights were canceled worldwide on Saturday.
More than 1,500 flights were canceled on Sunday, the BBC reported, citing the website. Chinese and American airlines have been hardest hit by the cancellation. Most of the canceled flights were to American airlines Delta, United and JetBlue.
During Christmas and New Year, the number of passengers worldwide reaches a record high. However, several airlines, including Lufthansa, Delta, United Airlines, JetBlue, and Alaska Airlines, have canceled flights during peak hours.
Covid-infected airline employees had to cancel flights while sitting in self-isolation. It is said that more flights may be canceled even on Monday.
