Omicron spread to 16 states of India, Modi called a review meeting

Kathmandu, December 23

The new Omicron variant of the Covid-19 is spread across 16 states, including a Union Territory of India.

According to India’s Union Ministry of Health, the new Omicron variant has so far spread to 15 states and one Union Territory, including Delhi.

The number of people infected with Omicron in India has reached 236. According to the
Ministry of Health, 104 of them have recovered or gone elsewhere.

The most infected with Omicron are in Maharashtra. Omicron has been confirmed in 65 people so far. Delhi is the second most infected with Omicron. Omicron variant has been seen in 64 people in Delhi till Thursday.

Similarly, 24 people in Telangana, 19 in Karnataka, 21 in Rajasthan and 15 in Kerala have been confirmed to be infected with Omicron.

Even Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has convened a high-level meeting today. According to Indian media, the meeting is discussing how to manage the home isolation of Covid-19 patients.

The Delhi government has banned gatherings and activities to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s Eve as the new variant of Covid-19 Omikron is on the rise.

The Disaster Management Authority of Delhi (DDMA) on Wednesday issued an order banning district magistrates (DMs) from conducting all kinds of cultural events and gatherings.

District level administrative officers and Delhi Police have been asked to comply with the order. Professional organizations have also been asked to bar people wearing masks from entering.
