China’s cross-country skiing team heads to Xinjiang for Olympic training

Head of China’s cross-country skiing team on Sunday said they plan to head to Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for training ahead of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

The team just finished a FIS cross-country skiing competition in Shanghai on Sunday. The competition was part of the China City Tour event.

“Our teammates all performed very well during the two-day competition. They have trained well in different places and in different weather conditions,” Zhang Bei, manager of China’s cross-country skiing training team, told the Chinese media outlet The Paper on Sunday.

“We are planning to go to Xinjiang for a period of training, and we hope our athletes can improve their skills,” she added.

Most of the athletes commented that the Shanghai track was flatter and the snow softer than natural snow, but it provided them with a good opportunity to test their comprehensive skills and a nice experience before participating in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Zhang said she was very pleased to see winter sports in China spread from the northern to the western parts of the country and that more Chinese are taking part in the sports.

Currently, the national cross-country skiing team is set to take part in all 12 skiing events at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
