Artist releases new sculpture inspired by ‘Book of Rites’

Inspired by a passage from the Chinese classic The Book of Rites, artist Jun Yihao has created a new sculpture to pass on China’s traditional culture.

Starting from “self cultivation” and then going through the steps of “regulating the family” and “governing the state,” one can finally “bring tranquility to all under Heaven.” Since ancient times this has been the ultimate goal for most intellectuals in Chinese history.

According to the artist, the new sculpture is modeled on the zun, a type of ritual bronze wine vessel with a round or square vase-like form, and includes the Chinese character ping (peace, tranquility) balanced with character jia (family) and guo (country, state) on the left and right.
