South Korea re-imposes ban on covid

Kathmandu, December 16

South Korea is set to tighten its rules on Covid-19. As the infection rate and the number of critically ill patients reach a record high, the restriction on Covid-19 will be tightened again.

A month and a half ago, sanctions were lifted in South Korea under the 'Living with Covid-19’policy. But the ban is set to resume on Saturday. At the same time, no more than 4 people will be allowed to gather and everyone who gathers must be fully vaccinated.

Similarly, restaurants, cafes and bars will have to close after 9 pm, while cinema houses and internet cafes will not be allowed to operate after 10 pm. People who have not been vaccinated will be able to go out on their own and bring food.

The government was forced to withdraw its earlier policy of lifting the ban after coronavirus infections continued to rise daily and health workers warned the hospital could be in a state of disarray.

Last week, the number of daily infections in South Korea reached over 7,000 for the first time. There were 7,850 new infections on Wednesday. A total of 7,622 people were infected Thursday, according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Meanwhile, after the second infection of Omicron was found in Malaysia, the restrictive rules will be tightened. As per the rules announced on Thursday, those who are not allowed to hold large gatherings and are at high risk will have to take mandatory booster dose.
