A period of compulsory passenger insurance imposed on international air services has expired
Wednesday as the risk of Covid-19 infection increases. Last December 3, Nepal Civil Aviation
Authority (CAN) issued a notice directing all air companies to be able to provide compulsory Covid
insurance for air passengers by December 15. But, as the final time can be set by CAN for insurance
is due Wednesday, most air companies have not yet to manage insurance.
At the time, air companies have demanded with CAN to add more time, saying the time for internal
insurance preparations and home work is premature. Gyanendra Bhul, deputy manager of the
authority, said the timing given by CAN in the first phase for compulsory corona insurance for air
acupuncture (passenger) was inadequate and that preparations were not complete.
Based on the demands of air companies, The CAN meeting today and further decisions will be made,
Bhul informed. According to Bhul, the Corona Insurance program is only related to air companies, so
discussions are now under way with air companies said they were already running such an insurance
program on their own policy.
The Civil Aviation Authority has told air companies that they need to insure a maximum of $5,000 for
passenger mandatory Covid-19 infection insurance and quarantines arrangements. Such insurance is
a condition of the authority that must go through local (indigenous) insurance companies.
