ARMY AUGMENTS OXYGEN GENERATION CAPACITY AND INSTALLS NORMOBARIC HYPOXIC CHAMBER IN BENGDUBI

Siliguri,10 December:
​Oxygen generation plant with the capacity of 400 litres per minute was inaugurated by Lieutenant General Tarun Kumar Aich, AVSM, General Officer Commanding Trishakti Corps on 10 Dec 2021 at Base Hospital Bengdubi in Siliguri.

​The new plant is state of art equipment with advanced technology to generate Oxygen directly from the atmosphere. The new plant will augment the medical Oxygen generation capacity amid COVID-19 pandemic and has the capacity of filling 45-50 cylinders per day. It will also help in preparedness for the potential third wave of COVID-19. The demand of Oxygen went up during the second wave of the pandemic as the number of patients requiring the respiratory support increased.

​Normobaric Hypoxic Chamber developed by Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences was also installed. The technology will be beneficial for achieving rapid acclimatisation of troops who are deployed in High Altitude Areas. New technology with intermittent hypoxic exposure will ensure rapid acclimatisation and enhance the availability of troops for induction to High Altitude Area during operations.
