China’s “expelling” of Lithuanian ambassador to China is a justified and legitimate reaction to Lithuania’s wrong actions that contravened the one-China principle and provoked and infringed upon China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Chinese Mission to the EU noted in response to Slovenia’s Prime Minister Janez Jansa’s accusations against China. Jansa made the remarks in a letter sent to EU member states encouraging them to stand with Lithuania.
The spokesperson of the Chinese mission reiterated that the one-China principle is a universally recognized norm in international relations. It is the political foundation for China to develop bilateral relations with other countries and organizations, including the EU and its member states.
The EU has committed to and repeatedly reiterated its adherence to the one China policy. It should urge its member states to correct their mistakes and should not send wrong signals on issues concerning China’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
China will not threaten anyone, nor will it be blackmailed or have its core interests harmed by anyone, the spokesperson noted in response to Jansa’s claims that specific measures will be discussed at an informal dinner of EU leaders on October 5 to prevent China from “threatening” any country.
